Can Gluten Intolerance be Cured?

Unfortunately there is no cure for gluten allergies. However, this statement actually sounds more scary than it is. The fact is gluten allergies do not go away, but the symptoms of a gluten allergy can more or less disappear once the sufferer cuts out gluten from his or her diet.
For as long as the sufferer continues to consume gluten he or she will experience the same symptoms they always have done. These can include bowel discomfort, diarrhoea, constipation, headaches and fatigue. In extreme cases it can even lead to depression and can leave sufferers at risk of bowel cancer and other illnesses.
Most of these symptoms occur not long after the sufferer has consumed gluten products. They may then have to turn to medication to ease their suffering. For example they may take some painkillers for their headache or medicine for their bowel troubles. However this is not curing the illness. Just delaying or masking the reaction to the allergy.
The only way to get rid of the symptoms is to cut gluten from your diet for good. This takes some practice and knowledge but it can be done.
Cutting Gluten From Diet
When it comes to cutting gluten from your diet entirely it just takes a little time to get used to. You’ll need to be much more careful when buying groceries or eating out. At the grocery store check the label on every product and if you are unsure then you should speak with an assistant at the store so they can help you.At restaurants make sure you speak to the waiter or waitress when ordering your meal. The menu may not tell you whether or not a meal has gluten in it. You do not want to take the chance so ask the waiter or waitress and they will speak to the chef for you.
Gluten-free Products
Gluten allergy sufferers today have it a little easier than anyone who suffered from the disease twenty or thirty years ago. This is because there are many gluten-free products available in most store these days. Shops and manufacturers have realised how common such an allergy is and have made sure gluten allergy sufferers are catered for. Indeed most allergy-sufferers find there are products available that are safe for them to consume. It is because of the safety aspect too that all foods have to be well labelled. The consumer has the right to know exactly what is in the product he or she is buying. You should have no trouble therefore in determining whether or not there is gluten in the products.
Although gluten allergies cannot be cured sufferers should not lose heart. Cutting gluten from your diet is not as difficult as it may seem and you will find you have to change very little about your lifestyle and you’ll still be able to enjoy your food. Within weeks of cutting gluten from your diet you will notice a huge difference in the way you feel and your symptoms will have practically disappeared altogether.
